The Big Guy’s Guide To Easily Styling An Overshirt For Autumn

back to blog

Now that the cooler weather is on its way, this is the time we find ourselves in that awkward in-between stage: too cold for t-shirts, still too warm for your staple winter jacket.

But, there’s one hero that we always reach for: the trusty overshirt.

Give your wardrobe the refresh it deserves this season with our guide to overshirt styling from BadRhino.

What is an Overshirt?

An overshirt — sometimes also known as a “shacket” — is an outwear piece that’s constructed like a shirt but worn like a jacket. They come in a variety of styles but some of their most popular designs feature chequered patterns and oversized pockets.

1. Overshirt and a T-shirt

Take your basics to the next level when you style an overshirt and a t-shirt together. This dynamic duo adds an extra layer of depth to your look, not to mention it also brings some added texture!

Keep things simple and opt for a plain t-shirt to style underneath. This way, you’re still letting the overshirt do all of the talking. If military style isn’t your thing, switch this overshirt for a chequered design instead.

2. Overshirt and a Hoodie

Perfect for those cooler days, you’ll want to make sure that your wardrobe has a trusty hoodie and overshirt combo.

Since an overshirt is a light jacket, you can easily wear them open or closed. When wearing it open, make use of contrasting colours so you can draw the eye to your upper half.

If you’re keeping it casual, team your hoodie and overshirt with a pair of dark wash jeans and light trainers to really give it an extra pop of colour!

3. Overshirt and Black Jeans

Nothing says wardrobe staple like a pair of black jeans. Great for dressing up for date night or down for a beer with the boys, keep your look laid back and relaxed with an overshirt and jeans.

Perfect for autumnal dressing, go for deeper hues in your overshirt and contrast these with a white tee underneath for an on-trend look.

4. Overshirt and Chinos

If you’re heading somewhere that requires a little bit of formality, step your look up and swap your jeans for a pair of chinos. These bottom-half heroes will really let you shine this season.

To complete your look, we’d recommend choosing a light colour for either your top or bottom and then go for a complementing darker tone on whichever is remaining. You’ll have autumnal dressing down to a tee!

5. Overshirt and a Jumper

Who said that basics had to be boring? If you’re wanting to make a statement this season, you can’t go wrong with a jumper and overshirt.

Whether you prefer crew neck, zip up or turtleneck styles, a jumper that you feel confident in is an absolute go-to to make you look and feel your best!
